Alright, bitch is logged in and bitch is about to bitch around. Topic of the day is Job Application & Sending Your Resume. As fresh graduates, we are either looking for a job or to continue our studies. If you are looking for a job, then you would know that your resume is the very first impression of you to your future employer. Having seen and received some job application of late, I don't really find it shocking that most fresh grads don't even know how to write a simply email seeking for a career or vacancy. And don't even get me started on some of the resumes received. A simple way to impress or leave an image in someone's head is to personalize your resume. When I say personalize your resume, I don't mean you put Hello Kitty or heart shapes all over your resume. Please, whatever you do...do not do that. Try to think creatively, not lala-ish. Here is a sample of how a resume should look like. It may not be perfect but its good enough.
First, kindly have your photo. A passport size photo, not a self-taken (camwhore) photo of yourself or taken from your Facebook profile. Ladies, please don't put one of those picture where you put on those oversized glasses and strike a pose. Like the LYNAS girl. Also put your REAL name as shown in your birth certificate and identity card. Nobody wants to know your alternative name or your nickname or your Facebook name. Education level, not necessarily to put your kindergarten unless you're like a child 'genius' which couldn't complete your kindergarten. Onto the employment history, the more the better and if you can describe your job tasks and scope, it would be a plus.
If you have gone through internship which I am sure everyone has, then state and state your task. Don't just put a one-liner that says [Company] and leave it blanko. Kapische?
Last but not least, your personal projects which you think can heighten your credibility and ability. As for the skills, you can state soft and physical skills but please don't go put like 'camwhoring' as one of your skills. My golden rule in the skills department, only state the skills that you are confident with and those that you are truly good at. If you can't do well in it, then don't state it.
And as for the email, please do write something to catch the attention of your future employer. Don't just email your resume and state there 'This is my resume' or 'Here you go'. Worse still, an empty email with nothing stated but the attached resume. HAPPY JOB HUNTING =)
