SIPPIN' & CHEWIN

Penang is abundant with cafes and with the current trend of vintage/nostalgic cafes, it's no surprise that in almost every corner of Georgetown area, you will come across a cafe or two. With the upcoming rise of hipster-wannabes, comes along cafes with a vintage touch. The difference with these cafes are not their food. Whichever cafes you decide to visit, their food would probably be the same and I'm one of those people who go for their snacks and drinks rather than a full course meal. These cafes stands out from one another in their decoration and atmosphere.

The latest cafe to pop up outta nowhere is the relevantly new SIP & CHEW. It may sound like SINCHEW daily but the story behind the cafe's name is pretty interesting. Well, for one the surname of the owner is Chew and it also means chew as in chewing. As for the Sip, I would think that it's the surname of another partner or the owner's betrothed but that's just too funny. Sip simply compliments the 'Chew' and therefor, you get SIP & CHEW. The brand of the cafe is also quite funkeh as it features the face of the owner sans the eyes, nose and lips.

Though limited with their seating, this little quaint and dainty (don't know the meaning? Google it) gives you a very friendly and cozy setting. There's indoor seating capacity of 3 tables and an alfresco sorta seating capacity of 4 tables. Food served here are western and pastas and they do have a wide selection with their food and beverages but we're not here to talk about their food cause I suck at evaluating food (evaluating people, now...that I am good. In another word, judgmental biatch).

Let's talk about their decoration instead. Think Zakka meets old school little cafe by the corner. That's what you get from SIP & CHEW. Plus, they sell these cute little teacups that are just so cute you can dieeeeeee. I did say I won't talk about the food but there's simply one item on the menu I HAVE TO MENTION. It's their HAPPY POTTED PLANT dessert. It's basically a Plant vs. Zombie kinda plant looking...plant but it's actually an ice-cream cake. YES, this is YUMMY. It's one of their must-have but probably available only in the evening and it takes time to prepare.

So...my suggestion would be to just get your arse down to the cafe and try it out for yourself.

SIP & CHEW is located at Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling. The cafe is in the row of shop lots between the Eu Yan Sang building and the Goddess Of Mercy Temple so slow down your car and be on the lookout for SIP & CHEW. Parking spaces are available in-front of the cafe. The cafe operates from 12pm-1am (at the moment), Tuesdays - Sundays.
